Light - Technical Investigation (week 5)





For the Synapse lamp, I would like to use a combination of LED lights. 

1. LED for a working light

For the tip of the synapse, I would like to use an LED light, within a tapered box, similar to the one shown on this IKEA reading lamp. The diameter of the light is approx 4 cm. 
2. LED for mood and atmosphere

 On the upper level of the Synapse lamp, I want to include mood lighting that will shine through the resin and create unique textures. 

 Plan to place LED lighting strips into a round metal plate that will be inset into the resin right above two upper gaps.
I decided not to include mood lighting on the base lamp so it can more naturally transition into a more opaque feel a the bottom, giving it some gravity and anchoring.

Thinking about the idea of creating collision environments for a co-working space, made me think about one of the greatest net work systems that exist in nature: Our Brain. Choosing a final Concept (Feb 10)

This is the final selection to develop next I call it -- the Synapse, inspired by the the brain synapse - the tiny gap between neurons that transmits information; the ultimate creator of connection; a task lamp that will b a main architectural participant  in a simultaneous interior design project: The Synapse Co-working space. The task lamp itself will match a network of Synapse lighting that will be both decorative and functional. The idea for the Synapse task lamp is to have two functions and two parts. Function 1: A bottom table mount part and a top ceiling light are joint together with a magnetic connector. The purpose is to mark a territory by providing a visual definition of space and mood light.  Function 2: The top ceiling part is separated from its bottom partner and angled to provide towards the desk top to provide task lighting for the user.
